A huge thanks to Modern Masters for providing the paints for this fabulous front door and shutter redo and for adding a little Passion to our porch!
And thank goodness, because there aren’t enough potted mums or porch decorations in the world to make our old front door welcoming (below).
We had a gorgeous front door! Seriously, it was a rich mahogany color and just beautiful. Unfortunately, it took such a beating from the sun all day long that the color actually bleached right out of it. We threw a coat of white trim paint on it late last fall to avoid further damage and then set out to find a solution to the problem. Enter Modern Masters “Never Fades” Front Door Paint! Yup, NEVER FADES–says it right there on the label! See . . .
This was the solution to our problem. Paint that never fades. And the colors are absolutely gorgeous. They even have a free front door app that allows you to actually see how the colors will look on your own door!
Our house has stone on the lower half and some of them have a cranberry-ish (is that a word?) tone to them. I wanted to pull that color off the stone and onto the door and really make the door pop. The obvious choice for us was Passionate! We chose Elegant (black) for the shutters. (Modern Masters does not recommend their paint for garage doors.)
There’s a video on their site that shows you the proper way to paint a door too. No guess work here. It was recommended that we prime the door and shutters with a primer tinted a dark grey for darker colored paint. This way the paint covers better with less coats.
The first step was to tape off the hardware, the glass panes and remove the kick plate. We did one coat of primer and then two coats of Modern Masters Front Door Paint on the door and shutters. The color is rich and gorgeous! Modern Masters paint is water based so clean up is as easy–just soap and water! This is literally a one day project. One coat of water based primer and two coats of paint . We primed at 8 am, 10 am coat one , 12pm coat two, two hours dry time and done.
What a difference! Here’s the Before:
And now the After :
What a difference this paint has made. Our front door and porch are beautiful and welcoming! (More on that Welcome sign in a later post). The “Passionate” door color compliments the “red” in the stonework perfectly and the “Elegant” shutters play off the charcoal tones. We are so happy with our color choices and how easy this project was. An entirely new look in a matter of hours. Be sure to visit Modern Masters and check out all of their paints and products. You can also find Modern Masters Front Door paint in Home Depot and some Lowe’s.
