I’m happy when my house smells clean and fresh, like a crisp fall day when the windows are open and the breeze is coming inside! I don’t like when nasty odors take over! Lots of things can cause unpleasant odors in your home–cooking, laundry, smelly shoes, sports equipment, to name a few.
And then there are pet smells!
I have a dog.
I love my dog!
She’s sweet and loving and extremely mellow. So mellow and well-behaved that sometimes I think we should have named her Valium instead of Piper! We adopted her from a rescue when she was just 8 weeks old! She was the easiest dog to train too. But being well-behaved and having those soulful eyes does not make her smell any less between baths! Her only downfall is that she can get smelling really bad in a very short amount of time after a bath.
See what I mean about the eyes!
I could pet this love bug all day, EXCEPT when she smells! Yes, that time between baths when the stink takes over and spreads to her bed and then starts to permeate the whole room, petting her is the last thing I want to do.
I don’t want to use chemicals to clean the air –or my dog–so I’m going to share what I use to keep my house smelling fresh and clean without perfumes, and chemicals.

Young Living Purification Oil
This stuff is awesome. I use it practically every day! It can be used on just about any smelly surface as well as in the air and it smells clean and neutralizes odors instantly!
I always have a spray bottle filled with my “No More Stinky Dog” spray handy!
I spray a light mist on my dog and then rub it into her coat, or if your dog is afraid of spray bottles spray your hands and rub it on–keep away from the face! She instantly smells wonderful. It’s a simple mixture of distilled water and 10-15 drops of Purification oil, shake well and spray away! I spray the dog, shoes, linens, carpets, my car, all the throw rugs, curtains, any surface or area where there is an unpleasant odor. Sometimes I just walk through the house spritzing away! It literally costs pennies to use.

Another, and my most favorite, way to use the oils is to diffuse them. I am a big fan of using my diffuser with Purification, Lemon and Thieves oils after cooking something stinky (like onions, garlic, or even broccoli) or any time I want to freshen the air inside. Within a few minutes the offending odor is GONE–not mixed with another scent–GONE!
This is the diffuser that I use.
Just fill with distilled water and add 8-10 drops of the oil of your choice. You can set it to run continually or intermittently. There are dozens of other delicious smelling oils that you can diffuse too. Some of my favorites are Thieves, Lemon, Orange and Peppermint, but there are many more to choose from. You can use a single oil or more than one at a time.
For a more targeted approach I use the water bottle sprayer/mister and spray the offending item directly (the smelly dog spray mix) –the carpet, dog bed etc. If you have stinky shoes you can put a drop on a cotton ball and place it in the shoe!
No more overpowering, flowery scented, harsh chemical-based sprays. I love the fresh and clean scent of Young Living’s Purification® essential oil. Purification oil is a combination of six -100% pure essential oils (“oilers” call that a blend) for the ultimate weapon against odors: Citronella, Lavandin, Lemongrass, Rosemary, Myrtle, and Tea Tree all combined together and give a refreshing, clean scent that keeps stinky odors away and your house smelling wonderful.
Other Ways to use Purification Oil
- Add a few drops to laundry to give your wash a great-smelling boost.
- Place a few drops on cotton balls and stash them wherever necessary: the car, closets and drawers, air vents, the vacuum, or shoes.
- Use in the car with a USB Diffuser (ask me) to eliminate lingering scents of fast food trips or stinky sports equipment.
- Refresh linens with a spritz of Purification, diluted with distilled water.
- Create an on-the-go air freshener with a spray bottle, distilled water, and Purification. Keep it in your bag to freshen up offices, public restrooms, hotel rooms, and cars.
