I thought I would give you a peek at how my vegetable garden is growing. I haven’t had one in a few years and I’m so excited to get back to planting veggies, especially since they are getting so expensive!
How My Garden Grows!!!
I was a little late to get started this year. Usually plants are in by May 15th, but it was actually a little cold here at the Jersey Shore. This year I am growing Beefsteak Tomatoes, Bell Peppers, Cucumbers, Cherry Tomatoes, Zucchini and Eggplant.
So here’s my little garden!! Cute, Right?
We decided to fence it in because between our house, our daughters house (our backyards are attached) and my older daughter (who is usually here a few nights a week and on weekends) there are 4 dogs!!! Two of those dogs are young and like to run and play and wrestle which is not healthy for plants! A fence was absolutely necessary! A neighbor gave me a broken down, falling apart, gloriously chippy Adirondack chair that is absolutely perfect for holding a galvanized bucked of lavender and petunias and of course, no garden is complete without a garden fairy!
I really think this is my favorite part of our yard!
Our Freshly Planted Garden
This was taken around May 20th. The plant on the far left is eggplant (and there is one in front of it). Next are two zucchini plants, then there are two cucumber plants in the corner. This was about a week after planting! I did purchase already started plants because I don’t have anywhere to start seeds! I did have a shot of the tomatoes and peppers at the time of planting, but I can’t find it!
The Garden Now
And this is a few days ago!!! Insane, right? Today I picked my first two peppers and a zucchini. There are literally dozens of tomatoes–I cannot wait for tomato and mayo sandwiches! I never grew eggplant, but based on the number of flowers on the two plants we should have dozens of them! And there are zillions of flowers on the zucchini and cucumbers too! The cherry tomato plant in the center there really hasn’t grown as much as the other plants but its loaded with tomatoes too! I definitely need a larger space!
I’m really happy with the way things are growing and look forward to lots of fresh veggies. Next year I want to double or triple the size of the garden! Do you have a garden? What do you grow?
(FYI-I’m in the middle of painting my kitchen cabinets and haven’t had time to weed–my bad!)

Your garden looks wonderful. It is so nice to be able to pick fresh veggies.
Thanks Debra! It really is, especially since its so hard to find nice produce at reasonable prices lately!
