I found this adorable little wall cabinet about 20 years ago at a yard sale. It had no back and this big open area above eight little drawers made from little wooden boxes which actually still had parts of the original labels on them! It was painted a weird greenish color and was pretty crooked and looked more like something to put at the curb than something to hang in your home! I really wish I had taken photos back then, but hopefully you can get a visual from my description.
I brought it home and showed it to my husband who promptly called me nuts and asked me if I wanted him to put it at the curb for me! After filling him in on my “vision” of what I wanted to do and where I wanted to hang it he was a little more agreeable. I asked him to section the top into two rows of little cubbies, add a top to it, and back it with some leftover wainscot paneling. Then I painted it cream and hung it on the wall. It was the 90’s so, of course, my kitchen walls were faux finished and stencilled! I remember I had stenciled a flowering plant with berries at the top (so it looked like it was sitting right on top — it was very convincing!). Then I had carried the flowers and berries onto the cabinet itself. Tres Chic–seriously, it was all the rage in my group of friends. Very unique and oh so trendy!
This cabinet has been in a lot of different places, kitchen, hallway, office and most recently in the entry at our last house. I finally decided where to put it in this house, but it definitely needed a face lift. So I dragged her out, dusted her off and grabbed my paints.
Look at these adorable little drawers. They are made out of small boxes, each one is a little different in size so whoever made them actually positioned thedrawer fronts so that you can’t tell they’re off! A few have the original labels on them too!
She just needed a little sprucing up and a few little treasures of my Mom’s to set her off!
Still one of my favorite pieces!
