I am loving how cute these faux cacti look in these small olive baskets. They came with a wall display piece that I got at one of my absolute favorite online stores, but more on that in a bit!
They were super simple to make ! Let me show you how!
Supplies
- My display piece(more on that in a bit!!!), but you can do this in any container that you choose. I needed to fill three containers.
- Sheet Moss -2 packages
- 3 Cacti -about 2.5″ -3 “ across I needed 3 for three buckets) You can buy single cactus at your local craft store
- Floral foam – 2 blocks
- 3 sprays of greenery
- You will also need a steak knife and a pair of wire nippers or something that can cut wire
The first step is to line your containers with the sheet moss. Sheet moss is very messy, but very easy to work with. Just cut or tear off a piece, place it inside the container against the sides and bottom. Trim the top as necessary.

Now you need to cut your floral foam a little bit shorter than your container and slice the sides so it fits inside the sheet moss. Don’t worry how it looks–nobody will see it.

Jam your floral foam into the container and cover the top with some moss.

Take your cactus and bend it slightly forward if you are hanging it like I am. You want it to be “face forward”. If you’re just doing pots you can place them whatever way appeals to you. Take a knife (or something thinner than the stem) and stick it down into the foam to make a slit to accept the cactus stem and insert the cactus.
Take your spray of greens and pull each stem out and away from the bunch so you can separate them to cut them apart. I only wanted to use one type of leaf so I cut it into pieces being sure to leave enough stem to insert it into foam. Place it behind the cactus.
And there you have it–all done and so cute. Now just do this as many times as you have containers. Did I mention I need three?

Here’s why! I take a long time to choose things to put on my walls. It’s not that I have a hard time committing, I just don’t want to hang something that you are going to see all over the place. I’m picky and I want something different. Here is an example of why I love to shop Decor Steals.

If you’re looking for something different and interesting and beautiful, something you won’t see everywhere you look–this is the place! Each day they feature a new decor “steal” at a special price. It’s available for a limited time. There are also extended deals. Their prices are great and their quality is excellent. Just click on any of the colored links (Decor Steals) and visit their website. You won’t be sorry, Farmhouse, Vintage, Cottage, Country , Industrial, French Country–so many styles to choose from. Something for everyone!
I thought you might like to see another shot of the project in the bathroom. It probably would have been better if I remembered to remove the soaps from their wrappers before I took the picture, but I didn’t. Oh well–nothing is perfect. If you don’t believe me just watch one of my project videos!!!

Happy Creating, Karen
