Did I mention that I live at the Jersey Shore? Beautiful beaches, the boardwalk, lovely beach towns, etc. We have fireworks on the beach once a week and summerfest at the beach/park on the river. So many things to do around here!
One of the beautiful historical parks in our area is called “Allaire State Park”. It’s laid out as it was 100 years (+) ago–set up as the Village at Allaire was with a mill and ironworks, mansion, small colonial houses, a blacksmith, row houses where the families lived that worked in the mill and ironworks, a bakery, general store, along with beautiful mature trees, miles of hiking trails, meadows, campsites and more! There is an old train station and steam engine train that you can ride in–the kids love the caboose. There is a small, lovely Church that they do actual weddings in, complete with a horse and buggy ! They do re-enactments too! So much history and the kids love it. The general store is loaded with period toys, penny candy, kitchen tools, jams, jellies (all food stuff is made there). The bakery is stocked with freshly baked-on-site goodies. The blacksmith works while you watch him, heating iron in the fire, complete with bellows–its a trip back in time!
My absolute favorite times at Allaire State Park are the spring, summer and fall flea markets! Rows and Rows of tables lined up in the meadow with just about anything you could possibly want. So much fun to wander around and see whats there is to see! Looking for something amazing to return to its former glory, or to up-cycle into something altogether different. Each table in each row holds the possibility of finding something amazing. You never know! Look what I found at our last visit.
The table top was cracked totally in half, but I knew that the husband could fix that easily. It was already stripped of its finish, so its just waiting for me to decide what to do–paint or not to paint! The Birdcage looks great black, but I think I’m going to spray it white! For the time being, they have found an empty corner in the living room and have been added to my long list of projects!
The flea markets run in the spring, summer and fall! Allaire State Park/ Historical Allaire Village is located in Wall Township, New Jersey http://www.allairevillage.org for an event calendar and more information. If you are ever in the area, its a lovely place to spend an afternoon. Be sure to let me know if you in the area!
